I don’t know when or how the idea of Average Joes Ensemble from the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story popped into my mind for a group costume at Oogie Boogie Bash - the most popular specially ticketed event held at Disney’s California Adventure theme park.

I didn’t even know if anyone was going to go with us and if they did, if they would be willing to dress as a group.

*Huge shout out to our friends for coming all the way from Texas and saying YES.*

What I had NO IDEA would happen was the real magic:

All night long we heard people call out…

“Average Joe’s!”

“Globo Gym!”

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!”

*thump thump* “hiss” (with the hand gestures)

“OMG I LOVE that movie!”

There was something so resonant in this for other guests. It allowed us to pause over and over, to see them and have quick conversations about a shared experience. To admire their costumes and for everyone to have smiles on their faces and in their hearts.

I said more than once I wish I had one of those clicky counter thingies to keep track of how many delightful connections we had.

It all added up to pure JOY.

This level of trust in yourself, in not knowing the outcomes, and doing things anyway?

It takes time and practice. An inner journey worth taking that leads you to your outer journeys that FEEL the same – even though they may look different than 4 grown adults playing dress up!

Magic and Joy Journeys.
